- 5150 - Police escort to a facility for observation or family safety
- 5150.5 - New State law (AB1424) that allows family members to aid the medical staff. Each county must write their own procedures. San Mateo County is the first to implement this law.
- Co-Occurring Disorders - Same as "Dual Diagnosis" (new term)
- Dual Diagnosis - Mental Illness combined with Substance Abuse (old term)

- IEP - Individual Educational Program
- Labeling- Refusal by facility to make a diagnosis so as to not 'label' a patient or to avoid having the diagnosis become medically covered under MHPA
- MHPA - Mental Health Parity Act - Forces health insurers to cover treatment and medications for seven mental illness as medical conditions.
- SRP - Special Rate Pay (Subsidized Residential Program) - A "Board and Care" facility that uses SSI funds
